80+ volunteers turn out for the first community cleanup day

On a Saturday morning in February, over 80 volunteers showed up with rakes, gloves, and trash bags to begin the work of restoring Sutherland Fields.

On February 15, 2026, over 80 volunteers — families, coaches, students, neighbors — gathered at Sutherland Fields for our first community cleanup day. We pulled weeds, hauled debris, raked infields, and started the work of bringing the complex back.

What we got done

  • Cleared overgrown brush from the outfield perimeters
  • Raked and prepped all three infields for assessment
  • Pulled three dumpsters' worth of debris and trash
  • Painted over graffiti on the dugout walls
  • Walked every inch of the complex to document repair priorities

What's next

The next cleanup day will be scheduled once Phase 1 contractor work begins — we'll need volunteer help organizing the post-construction landscaping. Sign up for the Friends of Sutherland list to be notified first.
